My life is not perfect but I would not change it for anything.  As an aspiring health coach, yoga instructor and mother of three my life can be a bit chaotic.  The daily running around trying to find some semblance of sanity can be exhausting.    I use phrases everyday that I never thought I would, they usually start with don’t eat … It is easy to lose my mind in all the craziness of work, kids, partner, money, schedules, I try to keep in mind a few things.

1) Gratitude
It is easy to be swept under by the overwhelm.  I try to practice gratitude every day.  Gratitude journals are really helpful especially when getting started.  Write down three things that you are grateful for that day. Telling the people and things in your life that you are grateful for them.
2) Organization.
Every family is a little different but having your schedules organized is really important to tackling overwhelm.  Whether you like online organizers or good old fashion paper, having your whole family on the same page is really important.
3) Take care of yourself
We have all heard this over and over again but it is worth repeating.  Take a walk, bubble bath, make a cup of tea or read a book.  Find some thing that nourishes yourself.
4) Play
All work and no play makes for a burnt out parent.  Find something that is fun.  For me I try to knit at night when the kids are in bed; going out with my partner for a date night. Playing doesn’t have to take a lot of time but it is important to connect to something that is not more work.
5) Meditation
Meditation can either be the formal sitting practice or a quiet contemplative walk.  There is an old Japanese Zen saying of if you are busy you should meditate for an hour if you are really busy you should meditate for two hours.   Meditation helps to bring in space into the mind and break up the overwhelm.

When I keep these things in mind my life seems to have more direction and purpose.  The most important thing is to roll with the punches.  There are always unexpected things in life but I try to have fun with them.
